Course Description
This course is designed for students who have successfully completed Latin II or III. Students will build their Latin vocabulary and strengthen their grammar skills by reading and translating both adapted and un-adapted selections from Latin Poetry. Authors read may include but are not limited to Catullus, Horace, Ovid, and the Carmina Burana. Students will analyze the meter, rhetorical devices and figures of speech used by the poets as well as consider Greek influences on Roman poetry. All readings will be accompanied by relevant vocabulary work and advanced grammar study. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the poetry in its historical, political and social context. NCAA Approved. |
